DEVON - PAGE 6 - 25/09/03 (IMAGES FROM 06/09/03 - 13/09/03)

(START POINT/BEESANDS/BRIXHAM)

The last page of photos from our time in Devon. The first six are from around Start Point in the South Hams area of Devon, for a map of the area click here. The next six are all from on our last day in Brixham, the 13th September. To see where Brixham is located click here.

Left photo was taken at Beesands, looking out from the shingle beach into Start Bay. Centre and right photos were taken on the walk down from the car park at Start Point towards the light house. The right hand photo looks across Start Bay back towards Beesands and the ruined fishing village of Hallsands, wrecked in a storm, January 1917.
The light house at Start Point in the left hand photo, and again, just showing at the top of the centre photo as we look back from the path to the car park. Right photo is a small beach in Lannacombe Bay, a bit of a steep drop down to the beach, but well worth it!

We visit Brixham before the journey back north, it's easily accessed from the South Hams via the Dartmouth Car Ferry that crosses the river Dart. You may just be able to make out the replica of the Golden Hind in the centre photo. The original Golden Hind, captained by Francis Drake circumnavigated the world between 1577 and 1580, for more details you can visit the website by clicking here.

There are a few tall ships in the port today, right photo shows the lighthouse at the end of the breakwater. Brixham is one of the busiest fishing ports in Britain, a visit is highly recommended if you are ever in the area.
