STANAGE EDGE - (25/02/06)

It's a wintry scene at Stanage Edge today with temperatures only reaching about 2˚C, the edge is located in Derbyshire to the north east of Hathersage.

It looks like winter is not ready to give way to spring just yet as biting cold winds and the remains of the previous days snow lie on the ground.

The views from the edge to the west are superb especially on clear days like today, in the centre photo you can see the distant Mam Tor, otherwise known as the 'Shivering Mountain' near Castleton.

Snow clings to the abandoned millstones whilst dark clouds threaten to bring more snow to the area; despite the cold Stanage Edge is still a busy place with lots of rock climbers and walkers around. To see photos from the last visit to Stanage in 2005 click here.
