LEEDS CASTLE - PAGE 1 - 24/04/04

Photos on this page are from our visit last Saturday to Leeds Castle, Maidstone, Kent. The Castle is located 7 miles to the east of Maidstone and is signposted off the M20 motorway that runs from London towards Folkestone and Dover. The weather was sunny with temperatures reaching a very warm 23˚C. There are more photos from our visit on page two, to visit click here.

The castle is marketed as 'The Loveliest Castle in the World' and one of the most historic and romantic buildings in the land. Photos above are from the Duckery as you walk towards the Castle.

500 acres in size, the park dates from the early-middle ages.

Although there has been a building on the site since the 9th century, the castle on show today largely dates from the twelfth century and is set on two islands.
There are many different attractions at the Castle, photos above are from the Aviary first created in the 1950's. It is a shame to see these spectacular birds in cages but they are nonetheless, still impressive. To see page two click here.
