BRERETON HEATH COUTRY PARK - 10/07/03

We walk around the lake at Brereton Country Park tonight, the park is located off the A54 Congleton to Holmes Chapel road, it is signposted from the road. The weather is very warm and humid but dull, with a few spots of rain around.

As on our last visit to the nearby Astbury Mere Country Park this lake was also created as a result of sand quarrying, in this case for fine silica sand which is used in the production of glass. There is visitors centre here, run by Congleton Borough Council and pay and display car parking.

Sculpture and poetry on the route around the lake, it is very easy walking with flat, even paths. Originally, before the land was used for quarrying this area was part of the Brereton Hall Estate.

It is a popular place for canoeing tonight and there are a few anglers fishing on the water. A variety of other paths and trails are marked from the route we take around the lake.
